Dr Amir Khan warns people to avoid one Halloween item this year

Countless households across Britain have already erected their Halloween displays – after all, October is well underway.

From ghoulish skeletons positioned by front doors to spine-chilling wreaths decorated with skulls, animatronics and beyond, there are endless methods to unnerve the neighbours each year in the lead-up to October 31.

Nevertheless, NHS medic and ITV Lorraine regular Dr Amir Khan has revealed there’s one particular decoration Brits should think twice about this year as it poses serious risks.

The doctor created an Instagram clip to alert the public about this decoration, offering a “polite reminder” – though many were completely unaware of the danger.

Dr Amir explained: “Hey, team. I just wanted to put a polite and very friendly reminder out there. I know Halloween’s coming up, and I love Halloween as much as everyone. I love the spookiness, I love horror movies […]”

He continued: “The point I’m making is, please, please, don’t put those fake cobwebby things around your bushes or trees or outdoor plants or wherever outside.

“I know they look kinda cool with the cobweb vibe, but they trap animals, they trap birds, they trap bugs, and things just die a horrible, horrible death in them.”

The medic branded them “awful” for wildlife, insisting it’s “just not worth it” considering the devastating effect on these creatures.

As a substitute, he urged people to “just use other Halloween decorations,” recommending a pumpkin instead, as it looks “nice”.

“Yeah, but just don’t put those cobwebs out, honestly. As a bird lover, as an animal lover, if you are the same, it’s just not worth it. And kids can find other ways to enjoy Halloween. Thank you, please and thank you,” he concluded his video.

In response, many praised him for highlighting this issue, as numerous individuals were unaware and simply purchased these decorations because they’re inexpensive, festive, and visually appealing.

One individual commented: “Bless you, Amir, thank you so much for posting this message, I totally agree with you. Can’t bear the thought of putting wildlife, birds or animals in danger.

“These things really should be banned. I get so upset this time of year with fireworks, too; they’ve already started up here. Our Oz is terrified, bless him, and the poor wildlife, horses and all outdoor animals must wonder what’s going on and be terrified too!”

Another wrote: “I agree. It’s very important we make sure we don’t put our birds and other animals in danger for only one day/night of Halloween fun. Choose safer decorations instead!”

“Also, at this time of year, if you keep some good thorny bushes about, the spiders make them for you; it’s a Halloween collab,” a gardening enthusiast remarked.
