A vet has revealed the beneficial food that UK dog owners can feed their pets to give them a huge helping of nutrients. What you feed your dog is vital, as it can seriously affect its overall health. Certain foods, including garlic and onions, should never be eaten by dogs as they can be seriously toxic. However, some foods that you should consider feeding them can give them great health benefits.

Many human foods are perfectly safe for dogs to eat, and many of them are actually extremely beneficial. A vet has revealed one of those foods, and it’s something that many Brits cook in their kitchens regularly. Dr Linda Simon is a resident vet at Pooch & Mutt, a UK-based dog food brand. She revealed that one type of fish is great for dogs as it contains Vitamin D, protein, Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin B12.

That fish, she says, is salmon. She revealed that this fleshy fish is actually one of the healthiest things your dog can eat. However, you need to make sure that you prepare it correctly.

Additionally, it should be served to them as part of a wider, nutritious and balanced diet. According to Dr Simon, salmon offers dogs a “party of health benefits”. The Omega-3 fatty acids, for example, contribute to good skin and coat condition as well as heart function and brain health.

Meanwhile, the protein in salmon is beneficial for your dog’s muscle development and repair. When it comes to Vitamins D and B12, there are many benefits, including a boost to the immune system and positive effects on skin and bone health.

However, salmon should be fed to dogs with caution, especially when it comes to puppies. Salmon should always be fresh, and the bones should be removed.

For puppies, serve it in small chunks so it is easier for them to eat. Meanwhile, salmon that isn’t fresh can carry bacteria, which can make your dog sick.

You should also make sure that the salmon you give to your dog is plain, as seasonings and spices can be toxic for them. Finally, feed them small pieces at first to make sure they do not have an allergy to fish.
