Costco recalls bottles of Prosecco it says may shatter even when left on a shelf
Costco has issued a recall to purchasers of bottles of a house brand of sparkling wine it says could shatter even when left unopened on a shelf.
The membership store chain said the bottles of Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene were sold between April 25 and August 26 at locations in 12 states.
Those include Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin, according to a Costco notice sent to purchasers.
“There is a risk of unopened bottles shattering,” it said, “even when not handled or in use.”
Purchasers are advised to wrap any such bottles in paper towels, put them in a plastic bag and put the bag in household trash to be tossed out.
Those who received the notice can take it to a Costco store for a full refund, the company said.
Costco said concerns should be addressed to Miami-based Ethica Wines, importer of the Italian bubbly. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
