Eurovision Song Contest’s Grand Final will see 26 acts battling it out for the crown, and fans are already preparing for the big night.

This month, 37 countries have been vying for a spot in the final, which airs tonight (17th May) at 8pm, on BBC One and iPlayer. Before tuning in, however, viewers have revealed ‘the only correct way’ to prepare for the broadcast.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, an entuhsed fan penned: “Starting #Eurovison weekend the ONLY correct way – watching Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.”

Released in 2020, The Story of Fire Saga is a musical romantic comedy starring Hollywood heavyweights Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams.

Based on the beloved contest, the film follows lifelong friends Lars Erickssong (Ferrell) and Sigrit Ericksdóttir (McAdams), who form the singing duo ‘Fire Saga.’

Although they regularly perform for locals in their small Icelandic town, the duo dream of one day winning Eurovision. When a tragic accident eliminates most of the contestants in the Icelandic final, Fire Saga are selected by default to represent their country.

Considered underdogs in the competiton, the pair must prove they have what it takes to make their country proud.

For those seeking to watch the film before tonight’s finale, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is streaming now on Netflix.

Upon its release, the musical garnered critical acclaim, earning a nomination for Best Original Song at the 93rd Academy Awards. Husavik, the song in question, boasts over 62 million listens on Spotify, with a further 22 million YouTube views on its offical music video.

The song’s popularity is no surprise, considering fans have been raving about the comedy since its debut. “This movie is hilarious and well-acted, with a spot-on soundtrack. I could watch it over and over and still find it just as funny. The music is fantastic, and the scenery is stunning,” reviewed a moviegoer on Rotten Tomatoes.

A second fan echoed the praise, penning: “As a movie buff of many years, I write this with great thought but it is one of my favourite movies of all time. A sweet story, amazing music true to the real life Eurovision style and great acting and cameo appearances. In short a real joy to watch, kick back popcorn ready and leave feeling great!”

Elsewhere on social media, one film fanatic dubbed it as “one of the best movies of the last several years,” before adding: “What a feel good film. I’ve watched it a few times now, and it just keeps getting better. We need this movie. Bring on a sequel.”
