The incredible new war film streaming on Netflix that left viewers ‘mind blown’ | Films | Entertainment
A brilliant new war film has received high praise from Netflix viewers.
Six Triple Eight, directed by Tyler Perry, was released at the end of 2024, and stars the likes of Kerry Washington, Ebony Obsidian, Sarah Jeffery, Oprah Winfrey, Gregg Sulkin, Susan Sarandon, Shanice Williams, Donna Biscoe and Dean Norris.
The critics’ consensus on Rotten Tomatoes reads: “The Six Triple Eight recounts an important true story with a steely Kerry Washington at command, but its treacly presentation unfortunately doesn’t let these inspiring events speak for themselves.”
The inspiring drama film has received praise from fans, with one reviewer writing that it was “very intense and mind-blowing.”
Another added: “History lesson that needs to be shared. Film was excellent.”
However, some disagree and think the film did not fully do the overlooked story justice.
This incredible Second World War film has been praised by viewers and is available on Netflix.
The Six Triple Eight is based on a true story, following the 855 women who joined the Women’s Army Corps to resolve the three-year backlog of undelivered mail.
The film’s synopsis reads: “The Six Triple Eight is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Despite facing racism and sexism, and gruelling working conditions, they were committed to serving their country with honour and distinction. Given an extraordinary mission and united in their determination, these unsung heroes delivered hope and shattered barriers.”
Wendy Ide of the Observer awarded it four stars in her review and said: “Unfortunately, Perry drenches the tale with his trademark syrupy ineptitude, creating a gloopy, turgid plodder. It doesn’t help that the performances are wildly uneven.”
Nicholas Bell also gave a negative review, stating: “Although it’s clear Tyler Perry has taken more pains than usual with the relevant recuperation, The Six Triple Eight suffers from unbearable moments of earnestness and schmaltz.”
The Six Triple Eight is available to watch on Netflix now.
