If you’ve ever read a page-turner of a book then you’ll know the feeling of not being able to put it down. On Goodreads, avid readers have voted on their favourite books that they couldn’t bear to part with until they’d finished reading. Taking top spot is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The novel is set in a dystopian future in the totalitarian nation of Panem.

Every year, children from the first 12 districts are selected via lottery to participate in a compulsory televised battle royale death match called The Hunger Games. The story follows the life of teenage heroine Katniss Everdeen as she fights to the death for the entertainment of her fascist government.

In second place is Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins which is the sequel to The Hunger Games.

It picks up where the first book left off, with Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark returning to District 12 after winning the 74th Hunger Games.

Their victory has sparked a rebellion that President Snow is determined to quell.

The book details the aftermath of their victory and the threat of punishment that looms over Katniss and her loved ones.

Taking the third spot on the list is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling.

This is the final book of the series, it has a lot of details that backtrack to “easter eggs” from the previous books and ties up the Harry Potter series perfectly, giving readers the satisfying ending they were hoping for.

At spot number four is Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James which follows the complex relationship between Anastasia Steele, a college graduate, and Christian Grey, a wealthy businessman with unconventional sexual desires.

Just scraping a place in the top five is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. The novel became even more popular after it was turned into a popular film starring Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart.

It follows the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan who falls in love with a teenage vampire who’s been hiding his identity for more than a century.

The star-crossed lovers explore their unconventional attraction, touching on themes of forbidden love, free choice, and morality. Published in 2005, Twilight became an immediate best-seller
