I’m a beauty editor and this £10 cream is my skincare hero
My mum got me into using Pond’s Cold Cream when I was 18 years old, and it was my grandma who introduced it to her. Years later, I still own version of the original. The reason why it gets passed down between family members is because no matter what age you are, the results are evident. The thick and creamy cleanser-come-moisturiser makes my skin feel lovely, transforming my dehydrated complexion into something fresher and healthier-looking.
For anyone who needs more convincing, Dolly Parton, 79, and Kylie Minogue, 56, have both said in interviews that they use it too (Kylie was also introduced to this by her mother – probably the only thing I’ll have in common with her!). Gen-Z have cottoned on as well; 25-year-old pop star Sabrina Carpenter’s makeup artist revealed this week that the singer uses it at home.
Despite the cream’s popularity, it’s become a little elusive to track down in the UK – but I have found it on Amazon for £9.95.
The cream can be used as both a makeup remover and moisturiser, combining mineral oil, beeswax and water to create a creamy texture that leaves your skin feeling silky and radiant – no shine, no greasy after-feel. It’s especially great for very dry skin.
To use this as a cleanser, really massage it into your face, for at least a good minute before wiping it off with cotton pads or a damp flannel. If you have been wearing “out-out” makeup, Pond’s Cold Cream is a rockstar at removing every small trace. You can also slather it on as a face mask and leave for 10 minutes, or even overnight. Without fail, I’ll wake up with bouncier, juicier skin when I do this.
Sabrina’s makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez revealed in an interview with People that Pond’s Cold Cream is one of her kitbag staples: “I always recommend Pond’s to my clients, especially those with busy schedules or frequent red carpet appearances…It’s simple, effective, and iconic.”
I think those last three word from Carolina sum up exactly how I feel about Pond’s Cold Cream, too.
