M&S, Tesco, Lidl and Aldi to close stores for Easter weekend

April and May are two of the UK’s busiest months for bank holidays this year. A four-day weekend is observed over Easter, with two long weekends in May. This is a welcome break for workers who benefit from extra time off, including some supermarket staff.

The arrival of the Easter weekend may leave Britons wondering when their local supermarket, be it Marks and Spencer, Aldi, Tesco, Lidl, or others, will be open. Most shops will remain open on Good Friday (April 18) and Easter Monday (April 21), but hours may vary. Express.co.uk has rounded up supermarket opening times for England and Wales on April 18, 19, 20 and 21. 

Marks and Spencer

The upmarket retailer is open as usual for most of the weekend, except Easter Sunday. Shops reopen from 8am in most places on Monday and will close a little earlier than normal.

Aldi

The budget supermarket will be popular for those hoping to bag a last-minute bargain on Easter weekend. Closed on Easter Sunday, Aldi’s 2025 opening times are:

• Saturday: 8am to 10pm
• Easter Sunday: Closed (Scotland stores open 9am to 8pm)
• Easter Monday: 8am to 8pm (Scotland stores open until 10pm)

Lidl

Lidl isn’t changing its supermarket opening hours too much for Easter weekend. Stores will operate standard opening times on Good Friday, Saturday, and Easter Monday.
