Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Yeah Yeah Yeahs Contribute to LA Wildfire Comp
Los Angeles Rising, benefitting Sweet Relief, also features songs by Devo, Grinderman, Primal Scream, Gary Numan and more
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, PJ Harvey and Devo are among the artists who have contributed unreleased recordings to a new compilation for Los Angeles wildfire relief.
Jarvis Cocker, Primal Scream, Gary Numan, U.S. Girls, Cave’s side project Grinderman and a one-off supergroup led by Flea and John Frusciante also provide tracks to Los Angeles Rising, which was curated by Love & Rockets’ Kevin Haskins and producer Nick Launey, both of whom were forced to evacuate during the wildfires.
“As the wildfires were raging and destroying thousands of homes around Los Angeles, both my neighborhood and Nick [Launey]’s were instructed to evacuate. But we were the lucky ones. The fire threatening our homes and recording studios was thankfully extinguished by firefighters just minutes away, but countless musicians and friends lost everything” Haskins said in a statement.
“This harrowing experience and witnessing the monumental destruction of entire communities, inspired Nick and I to team up to create a compilation album to raise money for the less fortunate. We reached out to our musician friends for unreleased recorded gems and the response was incredible! PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker, Primal Scream, Gary Numan and Devo are just some of the artists that rushed in to help.”
Among the tracks on the Los Angeles Rising comp — which benefits Sweet Relief — are Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ unreleased “Michelangelo,” Devo’s “Shoulda Said Yes,” and Jarvis Cocker’s rendition of the Mamas and the Papas’ “California Dreamin’.”
Los Angeles Rising is available now on Bandcamp.
