The currently untitled release, out Oct. 7, will go back to the musician and actress’ early beginnings in Mississippi and span her roles in Moesha, Cinderella, and more

Brandy will go back to the beginning in her forthcoming memoir, set for release on Oct. 7. The currently untitled project will span the life and career of the 45-year-old musician and actress who came to fame as a young teenager. “This memoir is more than a book,” Brandy wrote on Instagram. “It’s a reflection of resilience, hope, and rediscovering myself beyond the fame, the music and the spotlight.”

The book, which Brandy described as being “one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life,” will be released by Hanover Square Press. “I allowed myself the space to be fearless and vulnerable to reveal some of my most intimate moments,” she shared. “For the first time, I am sharing my story — honest, unfiltered and not through the lens of media or critics.”

The memoir will begin in McComb, Mississippi, where Brandy grew up singing in church. Her foundational experience there set the stage for an illustrious music career. She signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records in 1993 and within a decade had cemented herself as the “Vocal Bible” with albums including Never Say Never and Full Moon. It was during that same span of time that she starred in the titular role of the sitcom Moesha and made history acting alongside Whitney Houston as the first Black Cinderella.

“I’ve experienced unforgettable highs,” Brandy continued. “But what you didn’t see were the struggles behind the scenes, the trials that tested my spirit and shaped the woman I am today.” The artist has experienced a number of health concerns throughout her career and welcomed her daughter Sy’rai when she was 23 years old.

“This memoir is more than a book; it’s a reflection of resilience, hope, and rediscovering myself beyond the fame, the music and the spotlight,” she said. “This memoir is a lifetime in the making, and I hope my words bring inspiration as you navigate your own journey.”
