It may look easy, but drying the laundry is one of the most crucial but time-consuming tasks in every household. With winters around, the task can be a challenge due to low temperatures, high humidity, and limited sunlight, but with a few tips, you can still get clothes dry efficiently.

An expert has shared a £1 hack that can help you to dry the clothes faster and it is something that is found in every household.

It is believed that using a tin foil ball in your dryer can actually help speed up the drying process and reduce static cling, which can be especially useful in colder or drier seasons.

Tin foil acts as a natural conductor, helping to break down static buildup between clothes as they tumble in the dryer.

By helping reduce the clumping of clothes, the foil ball keeps the clothes separate, allowing for better airflow and potentially speeding up drying time.

You can make the tin foil ball at home. Just pull out a sheet of aluminum foil, around 2–3 feet in length.

Start by crumpling it loosely, then keep pressing it down until it’s firm and about the size of a tennis ball. Make sure the edges are smooth, so they don’t snag clothes.

Toss 1–3 balls into the dryer along with your wet laundry.

Each foil ball can last up to six months before it loses its shape or effectiveness.

For larger loads, using two or three balls is more effective than one.

Unlike dryer sheets, which create waste, aluminum foil balls can be reused and recycled once they’re worn out.

Using wool dryer balls alongside your foil ball can further reduce drying time, as they absorb some moisture while tumbling. The combination of wool and foil is great for static and quick drying!
